World Oil Network reported that on November 14, ExxonMobil’s third offshore oil development project Payara in Guyana’s Stabroek block has started production. The company’s total production capacity in Guyana has reached approximately 620,000 barrels per day.
ExxonMobil's third floating production, storage and offloading unit (FPSO) "Prosperity" has been put into operation. With the commissioning of new wells, the FPSO's output is expected to reach approximately 220,000 barrels per day in the first half of 2024. Previously, ExxonMobil predicted that the Stabroek block's daily oil production would exceed 1.2 million barrels by the end of 2027.
Payara is ExxonMobil’s third development project in Guyana and is worth US$9 billion. Development of the fourth project, Yellowtail, and the fifth project, Uaru, is currently underway, with each project expected to have an oil production of 250,000 barrels per day. ExxonMobil is working with the Guyana government to secure regulatory approval for a sixth project at Whiptail.
Since 2015, ExxonMobil and its direct contractors have invested more than $1.2 billion in more than 1,500 Guyanese suppliers. ExxonMobil’s offshore oil and gas development activities have brought 6,000 jobs to Guyana, accounting for more than two-thirds of local oil and gas production jobs. Liam Mallon, President of ExxonMobil Upstream, said: “Each new project will drive economic development and resource extraction, which will benefit Guyanese communities while also helping to meet the world’s energy needs.
